Based on their performances in Jacksonville, a total of seven players were extended invitations to take part in upcoming id2 Program Training Camps in Zarephath, N.J., and Frisco, Texas.
The focus for both the Southeast Pre-Academy League and Florida Premier League will now shift to the regular season, as teams begin the road towards the NPL Champions Cup. Slated for July 27-30, 2012, the NPL Champions Cup will feature winners of every NPL competing against each other for NPL national championships.
JACKSONVILLE UNITED FC WINS NPSL CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 3-2 WIN OVER HOLLYWOOD UNITED
Jacksonville, FL – July 30, 2011 – Jacksonville United FC (JUFC) won the National Premiere Soccer League Championship game tonight with a 3-2 victory over Hollywood United (CA) in Madison Alabama. JUFC captain, Tommy Krizanovic scored a hat trick had help from his Englewood High School team mate Rami Safi who had the assists on two of the goals. Krizanovic was named the NPSL Championship MVP and teammate Tyler Williams was named to the NPSL all star team. The championship comes in JUFC’s first year playing in the NPSL.
Jacksonville took a 1-0 lead at the 18 minute mark when Safi found Krizanovic who hit a left footed shot to the back post. Five minutes later Hollywood was awarded a penalty kick for a hand ball but Arturo Albarrans shot clanged off the crossbar. Thirty minutes into the game Albarran redeemed himself with a 20 yard blast into the back side netting. Seven minutes later Safi found a streaking Nedim Hrustic who played a one touch pass to Krizanovic to put JUFC up 2-1 at the half.
The second half saw more spirited play, as seven yellow cards were issued during the contest. Hollywood pressed the attack but JUFC’s defense led by centerbacks Jacobi Goodfellow, Garrett Teague, and goalkeeper Stuart McCrory was up to the task. Hollywood United’s efforts paid off in the 77th minute when Brent Whitfield was taken down in the box and Albarran converted the ensuing penalty kick to tie the game at 2-2. This set the stage for Krizanovic’s third goal of the night at the 87 minute mark with an assist from Safri.
