Area boys soccer players, coaches honored with state awards

Two boys soccer players and their coaches have been recognized as the best in the state in their classifications by the Florida Dairy Farmers.

Bolles senior midfielder Jay Bolt was selected as the Class 2A player of the year, and Ponte Vedra senior goalkeeper Kevin Shields was voted player of the year in Class 3A. Bolt, a UNF signee, finished with 16 goals and 26 assists for the state champion Bulldogs. Shields (Lynn), who allowed only one goal in the playoffs for the state champion Sharks, finished with 146 saves and a 0.38 GAA.

Bolles coach Jim Lieb (2A) and Ponte Vedra coach Daniel Villarreal (3A) were named coaches of the year in their respective classes.
